Start by identifying the chain pitch and strand arrangement. A sprocket is not interchangeable simply because its bore fits the shaft. Tooth form, chain reference, tooth count and alignment must match the chain geometry.
Practical selection workflow
Confirm the chain reference, measure pitch across several pins if the marking is unclear, verify simplex or multi-strand construction, then check sprocket tooth count and bore. For replacement work, inspect wear on both chain and sprocket; a new chain on a severely worn sprocket can shorten service life.

Include the existing reference, measured dimensions, quantity, operating speed, load or motor information where available, and the environment around the drive. For a replacement, photos of the old component and its mating part can prevent mismatches.
